Fair City 2011 blues winners of the Copa Jordi 2024.
The boys scored 12 goals and a clean sheet the whole tournament. Absolutely outstanding effort from all of them and the coaches this weekend.
On Friday we played Hillsborough 2011 from Northern Ireland. This was the most close game we had all tournament and deserved to have them in the final. The first half the game was close and no one breaking the lead. Second half we were given a penalty from a hand ball, where Jack stepped up to take and slotted it away nice to break the stale mate.
The Saturday, we had CS Romainville from France - where we started a bit shaky, there defence and keeper did very well, but we needed to take our chances. Goals eventually came from an absolute screamer from Myles, hitting it top bins, then an OG from them.
Second game against the USD Serrimissian an Italian team. From the whistle you could tell it was going to be a bit brutal, as the team were quite aggressive. This just added to the fuel in our bellies and the boys found that gear. Cal opening the assists for Jack and Ciaran g. Followed by Jacks free kick, which was incredible after a shocking tackle on Cal. Then we got a couple of yellow cards ourselves and they had a player sent off for kicking our player. Lyndon with a header, Jack worked another peach of a free kick. Ben got a goal and then Jack completing his hatrick.
Onto the final on Sunday against another Italian team from Florence, Italy. We started work the majority of the possession and you could tell they just wanted a draw as they just piled boys into defence. First half was 0-0, then second half the boys fought hard. With Alfie’s goal and then Ben’s goal to take the pressure off.
We couldn’t ask anymore from these boys, simply amazing. The coaches have worked so hard with the boys and deserve to take some credit. Players of the tournament went to Cole, Daniel, Lewis and Braiden. They were solid the whole tournament and keeping a clean sheet amongst themselves.
The parents, siblings, family friends and our other fair city teams, cheered us to the end. Along with our supporters at home. Thank you all for making this such a great experience.
The team was also awarded the Fair Play award of the tournament as well, based on the referee scoring on each match.
